Community Forum Update: burglaries, e-scooters & parking |
Dear Resident,
Today, we attended the South Wigston Community Forum where we engaged with local residents to discuss community concerns and provide updates on current policing activity. We also outlined our priorities for the months ahead, ensuring our focus remains aligned with the issues that matter most to South Wigston. During the meeting, several residents raised parking-related concerns. Advice was provided around the most appropriate agency to contact, which is the local council, as they are responsible for managing and enforcing parking matters. The system was updated to the formal "Civil Parking Enforcement" (CPE) regime on 31st March 2008, following the Traffic Management Act 2004 which removed the powers and responsibilities of Police to manage parking related issues. Residents also enquired about burglary levels in the area. We are pleased to report that this year we have seen a significant decrease — to nearly none — in what was already a low number of burglaries in South Wigston. This is encouraging and reflects both community awareness and ongoing proactive policing efforts. We also discussed emerging issues involving e‑scooters and e‑bikes, particularly those being ridden recklessly by youths wearing balaclavas and involved in antisocial behaviour. We understand that this behaviour is intimidating for the public. As a result, we are now targeting these offences and taking steps to address the misuse of e‑scooters and e‑bikes to ensure public safety. We have already taken some off the road, and our efforts will continue indefinitely, or until we see substantial and satisfactory improvement in this issue. It was a valuable opportunity to meet residents face‑to‑face and hear directly from the community. We appreciate everyone who attended and shared their views, helping us shape our ongoing priorities for South Wigston. Take care all,
